At the 18th International Agricultural Exhibition of Morocco (SIAM) in Meknes, agricultural leaders and experts discussed reforms needed to strengthen livestock systems and improve food security amid climate and market pressures.
Morocco’s Agriculture Minister, said the livestock sector remains a key part of the country’s Green Generation 2020–2030 strategy, contributing 35% of agricultural GDP and supporting around 1.2 million breeders. However, he warned that recurring droughts have reduced herd sizes and increased difficulties for farmers.
Portugal’s Agriculture Minister, called for closer international cooperation on issues such as water management, soil protection and agricultural research.
France’s Agriculture Minister, emphasised the importance of balancing productivity with sustainability and public health, while Morocco Agricultural minister highlighted Morocco’s agricultural progress as an example for other African nations.
The conference also addressed livestock resilience, changing food consumption habits and global meat market trends. Participants identified sustainable animal feed, farm modernisation, genetic improvement and stronger sector organisation as priorities for future development.
